PALM ANATOMY I

monotype 24”X24”
From 2000 to 2009, I had been drawing palms. Some of my drawings reach forty two inches by six feet.
In 2008, three of the drawings were selected for the exhibition,
 “Etch and Sketch” at the
Duxbury Art Complex Museum.
This show featured contemporary drawings viewed with the museum’s extensive permanent print collection (Renaissance to early 20th centuries.)

The exhibition was well received and inspired me to approach the subject of palms once again but using printmaking techniques to further explore possibilities. Printmaking in itself invites invention, play and provocative ideas. I always start with something specific in mind, but the printmaking process never fails to introduce a new idea. I try to keep myself open to what the press has to say.
These prints are the result of that.
